Jerry Douglas joined cast of The Young and the Restless in March 1982 as
John Abbott, the patriarch of the Abbott family and the wealthy chairman
of Jabot Cosmetics.
Over the span of his career, Douglas has starred in over one hundred television
series and feature films, including The FBI, Harry O, The Rockford Files,
Police Story, The Streets of San Francisco, House Calls, Hill Street Blues,
Hunter, Crash, Walton's Mountain, Night Watch and Melrose Place.
His feature film credits include Avalanche, Looker, Mommie Dearest and Oliver
Stone's JFK.
Douglas was born and raised in Chelsea, Massachusetts. He won a football
scholarship to Brandeis University, where he graduated with a B.S. degree
in Economics.
Douglas launched his acting career upon graduation from college, studying with
Uta Hagen in New York and Jeff Corey in Los Angeles. Douglas is also a
screenwriter and develops projects through his production company, Jovra Films.
He donates his time to Variety Clubs and the Salvation Army charities, and enjoys
playing golf, reading and traveling in his free time.
He and his wife Kym Douglas, entertainment host on the Family Channel's Home
and Family Show, have an infant son, Hunter. Douglas has two grown children,
Jod and Avra, from a previous marriage.
His birthday is November 12. He stands 6'1" and has light brown hair and brown eyes.
